Physical/Sport Therapy

Claudia Chaloner, PT, DPT

Physical Therapy at Crossfit ATR

-Doctor of Physical Therapy, University of St Augustine for Health Sciences
-B.S. in Exercise Science, Furman University

Claudia has 18 years of experience in the fitness and wellness industry and nearly 10 years focusing on physical therapy. She has competed in a variety of sports from amateur boxing and rugby through high school and college to powerlifting and bodybuilding in more recent years. Back in 2007, she discovered Crossfit and fell in love with the intensity of the sport and the camaraderie of the community. She is so thankful to be a part of the Crossfit ATR family!

As a physical therapist, she is committed to improving not only the lives of her fellow athletes but any individual experiencing issues that keep them from performing activities they love. As an athlete and coach, Claudia understands the demands of high-intensity training and realizes the necessity of efficient movement patterns and education in order to achieve and maintain optimal performance. Due to personal injuries, she can relate to the frustrations of receiving therapy services provided by professionals who are not educated about how to return to weightlifting and high intensity training following an injury. She hopes to bridge this gap by providing empathy, encouragement, and knowledge. Claudia is ready to equip fellow athletes with self-maintenance tools and train individuals to move for LIFE.

FAQ

What to expect

During our one hour initial evaluation, we will complete an assessment, perform any necessary treatment/exercises, discuss a plan of care (including how to modify current crossfit/weightlifting training), and design a rehab game plan.
I strongly believe everyone has the power to overcome injuries with a little guidance, consistent work, and patience. I don’t want you to have to see me twice a week for the rest of your life. I’m here to be your guide, to help you heal yourself.

Insurance

Over the last several years, insurance companies have reduced payment to physical therapists significantly and increased the burden of paperwork. Because of this many physical therapy clinics have chosen to reduce costs by decreasing time with a qualified therapist to 20 minutes or less and using aides for exercise supervision and passive modalities. These are the reasons I left the clinic environment and have committed to provide quality individualized care here at ATR. I will be working directly with you during our scheduled time and will not let an insurance company dictate how we want to work together.

The CrossFit class is grounded under one basic principle: Position = Power. We teach you how to use techniques to get yourself into better positions, so you are automatically stronger and faster without doing any additional exercise. You will learn a variety of flexibility, massage, and joint mobility techniques to improve your athletic performance, extend your athletic career, treat body stiffness and achy joints, and rehabilitate injuries.

After seeing thousands of athletes move in our group classes and visit our deep tissue therapy office, we saw a clear pattern for healthy performance. We learned that 90% of the most common injuries are preventable and that athletes simply lacked an understanding of simple mechanics and the tools to improve those mechanics through increased flexibility and range of motion.

We teach athletes how to fix their individual nagging aches and pains, prevent injury, and improve athletic performance. Humans have been evolving for millions of years and the human body is extraordinarily engineered. However, none of us were ever given the tools for how to perform basic maintenance on ourselves… until now!

For any issues requiring a specialist, ATR has two of the best in the business to help you! Check out Kelley Schlager and Claudia Chaloner for more info.
